Enter the structured world of Corporate America, and you’ll notice something futuristic about the computers, albeit the futuristic concept is a tad bit simplistic in design and thought. It is simply this:
Most users employ multiple monitors. And when this article writer states “multiple monitors,” it’s not to necessarily suggest multi-tasking on multiple keyboards or several different mouses either! These “multiple monitors” actually coexist in the same arena of cyberspace with your one mouse gliding seamlessly between one monitor and the other! Very futuristic. It’s almost Tom Cruise’s “Minority Report” style for you!
Here’s the thing, though: is it really better to have more monitors? Or does it clutter the space? Maybe it makes your computer run slower?
“No” runs all around the board on those questions. Flat, easy, NO.
One would think that more is too much. In this case, it’s not; more is much better! According to research from the University of Utah, workers using a larger monitor alone increased productivity by 52%. Moreover, two larger monitors sported a productivity increase of 44% as opposed to two smaller monitors. The bottom line is this:
Less time trying to arrange the information on the screen means more time actually doing the work! Users used to live in an age when minimizing and maximizing and dragging and dropping windows just to fit it all in one screen was the norm. It’s now easier! Drag a window to another monitor, and you’re good to go. Larger monitors, too, make it easier to see your work in a smaller window if you still need to cram more stuff onto the desktop. It makes perfect sense—more is better.
If you’re still using one dinky monitor with your computer at your office, maybe think about syncing another monitor or at least purchasing a larger monitor for your purposes. Not only would you be grateful, but so would your work! Those documents on your screen wouldn’t be cramped anymore.
